An Engaging Educational Tool for Student Pilots

Project Overview
Arch Angel is an app designed to bridge the gap between student pilots and their instructors, creating a collaborative environment that fosters continuous learning, real-time feedback, and a sense of community among aviation enthusiasts.

Project Goal
To develop an intuitive digital solution that encourages direct instructor-student engagement, centralizes learning resources, and promotes peer-to-peer support—ultimately improving pilots’ confidence, retention, and overall flight training experiences.

Design Process

  1. User Research & Discovery

    • Conducted interviews with student pilots and certified instructors to uncover pain points and desired features.
    • Mapped out user journeys to better understand the key touchpoints and opportunities for engagement.
  2. Ideation & Wireframing

    • Brainstormed features addressing challenges such as progress tracking, peer collaboration, and immediate feedback loops.
    • Created low-fidelity wireframes to rapidly visualize workflows and gauge feasibility.
  3. Visual Design & Branding

    • Developed a clean, professional look reflecting the aviation community’s trust and safety standards.
    • Established a cohesive color palette and typography aimed at reducing cognitive load for new learners.
  4. Prototyping & Testing

    • Built interactive prototypes to validate functionality and user flows.
    • Conducted usability testing sessions with pilot students and instructors, refining the design based on insights around clarity, efficiency, and community-building.
  5. Iteration & Refinement

    • Revisited core features—such as lesson plan tracking and in-app messaging to ensure they addressed the main pain points uncovered in user interviews.
    • Integrated feedback loops to continuously improve and align with evolving user needs.

 

Solution
The final Arch Angel app offers a seamless, supportive experience for aspiring pilots. It combines user-friendly progress tracking, interactive lesson modules, and real-time communication tools for instructors and student pilots alike. By prioritizing clarity and community, the design enhances learning outcomes, fosters stronger mentorship bonds, and makes flight training more accessible and engaging for everyone involved.
